Lady Warriors Struggle to Find Offense in First KCAC Loss

Leavenworth, Kan. - The conditions were not kind Saturday afternoon as the Lady Warriors took in the Saint Mary Spires on a rain soaked soccer field. There was a lack of offense on both sides of the ball and attention to detail and precise passing was required to see any kind of success.

The first half was slow for both teams. Only 3 shots were recorded in the first half, all of which came from the Spires. Shay Gibbs contributed one save in the first half and after 45 minutes the two teams were deadlocked in a 0-0 tie.

Both teams were slightly more aggressive in the second half. Sterling managed just two shots as they struggles to control the ball in wet conditions making it difficult to put an offensive possession or transition run into play. The Spires were able to net two shots in the second half, one in the 57th minute and one in the 66th minute. Those two goals were all the offense that was seen in the contest.

Sterling was outshot 9-2 on the afternoon. Both keepers had 2 saves. The Spires outlasted Sterling and took a 2-0 win, the Spires first of the young conference season. This is just the second loss of the season for Sterling as their record drops to 4-2 (1-1).

Sterling is back in action Wednesday afternoon as they travel to York University where they will follow the men's game with kickoff scheduled at 3:30 pm. The will then make another trip to Kansas City to take on Avila University on Saturday at 1 pm.
