Two Second Half Goals Send Spires Past Sterling 2-0

Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Women's Soccer team took on Sterling College on Saturday, winning 2-0 for their first win of the year. The Spire's overall record is 1-2-2 and 1-0-1 in conference play.

Josie Hallier and Abbie Rodgers started things off early for the Spires, taking shots on goal and pressuring the Warrior keeper. Both teams were unable to break through for the first goal in the game in the opening half.

Coming out of the break, Saint Mary took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute as senior Kaylee Shaw fired a shot into the upper corner for a goal. Just 10 minutes later, the Spires added a decisive goal as Diana Aguilar found Karleigh Enyart on a corner kick to extend the Spire lead. A few minutes later, Sterling had an opportunity to get on the board, but Madison Lahargoue made a stellar save to maintain the clean sheet and keep the momentum on the Spire's side. Lahargoue made one last stop in the 86th minute to seal the 2-0 win for the Spires. Saint Mary took nine shots on the night, four of which were on goal.
