Warriors battle hard but drop game to Southwestern
Sterling College baseball faced Southwestern on Tuesday, March 25 at home. The game was a back-and-forth battle that the Moundbuilders ended up winning 10-7.
Southwestern scored first in the top of the first inning with a single through the left side from Raisean Dorsey to give the Moundbuilders a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the first inning with a single to left center field from Jackson Parmenter to bring home Luis Morales. Austin Santiago added the Sterling's score with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Andrew Dutro in for the run.
The Moundbuilders came back with a run in the top of the second and two runs in the top of the third to give Southwestern the 5-2 edge.
Another sacrifice fly out to right field from Santiago brought Morales home in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the gap, 5-3.
Southwestern made their push in the top of the sixth and seventh innings with two and three runs, respectively, to give the Moundbuilders a sizable 10-3 lead.
Sterling tried to rally back with two scores in the bottom of the seventh with a single to right center from Parmenter to bring home Dutro and Parmenter taking advantage of a wild pitch to get a run.
Two more scores in the bottom of the eighth inning from the Warriors brought them within striking distance, but a fruitless ninth inning closed the game with Southwestern on top 10-7.
Trenton Canaan started things off from the mound for the Warrior. He pitched five and one-third innings, surrendering eight hits which resulted in six runs (five earned). Joseph Haynes came in relief pitching three innings, he surrendered one hit, which resulted in zero runs. Haynes walked two batters and struck out one.
The Warriors will be back in action on Friday, March 28 at home taking on Friends University at 3 p.m.
