Warriors get the win over Southwestern

Sterling College baseball got the win over Southwestern College on Tuesday, March 18 in Winfield, Kan. The Warriors came out with a 16-3 victory over the Moundbuilders.

Sterling got straight to work with five runs in the top of the first inning. Jackson Parmenter got things started off for the Warriors with a single to bring home Emmanuel Huerta Cardenas and Luis Morales. Andrew Dutro capitalized on an error from the catcher to get home.

Parmenter scored later in the inning off of a single from Austin Santiago. Joseph Almanza finished off the inning with a triple to bring home Nate Heffline and give Sterling the 5-0 lead.

Southwestern came back with two scores of their own in the bottom of the first to close the gap, 5-2.

In the top of the second, Parmenter struck again with a single to bring home Dutro. Morales followed suit in the top of the third with a single of his own to bring home Almanza extending the Warrior's lead, 7-2.

The Moundbuilders were able to get another score in the bottom of the third to get their third, and last, run of the day.

The Warriors continued to roll. In the top of the fourth, Heffline reached first base on fielder's choice to advance Santiago and Parmenter home.

In the top of the fifth, a double from Dutro brought home Cardenas and Ezavian Campos, Parmenter singled to bring Dutro home, Jason Smith returned the favor by singling to bring Parmenter in for the run.

Sterling finished things off in the top of the sixth with a triple from Parmenter to bring home Cardenas and Morales and later scored off an error from the first baseman to give Sterling the 16-3 victory.

Parmenter had a perfect day from the plate, getting four hits off of for at bats, recording six RBIs while getting four runs of his own.

Trenton Canaan led the Warriors from the mound, throughout the seven innings he surrendered six hits which resulted in three runs (two earned). He walked two batters while striking out three.
