Sterling drops two in double header against York
Game 1
In a challenging conference double header on Tuesday, Feb. 25, the Sterling College Warriors faced two tough defeats, falling 19-9 and 16-7 to the York University Panthers in Sterling, Kan. Early dominance by York set the tone, with the Panthers securing a decisive 7-run lead in the opening inning of the first game, capped by a 3-run homer from Ian Heck.
The Warriors struggled to contain York's offensive prowess. Luis Morales, Emmanuel Huerta Cardenas and Andrew Dutro each contributed two runs for Sterling, with Cardenas also notching a solo homer in the effort. Despite their resilience, the Warriors could not overcome the early deficit. The game saw York's Ryan Romero drive the point home with a grand slam in the fourth inning, part of his remarkable day which included two home runs and eight RBIs.
Aaron Alvarado started on the mound for Sterling, facing formidable opposition. His counterpart, Heck, not only excelled with his early home run but also contributed significantly on the mound, frustrating the Warriors' hitters.
