Sterling drops two in non-conference double header

Sterling showed a lot of promise in their season debut against the Oklahoma City Rams despite a final score of 5-3 on Feb. 1, at Jim Wade Stadium in Oklahoma City. This first game of a double header day was played under clear skies with temperatures around 55 degrees, providing ideal conditions for baseball.

The Warriors managed to put three runs on the board thanks to contributions from Jackson Parmenter, Jason Smith, and Joshua Garcia, each adding a single run. Luis Morales starred with a crucial two-RBI double to right center in the 3rd inning, while Austin Santiago also contributed with an RBI. Despite their efforts, the Warriors could not overtake the Rams' lead.

Starting pitcher Aaron Alvarado took the mound for Sterling College but faced strong opposition from the Rams' lineup. Alvarado threw 35 strokes on 66 pitches and struck out two batters while only giving up three runs.

Game two of the double header proved to be a high-scoring encounter where the Warriors fell short to Clarke University with a final score of 17-11.

The neutral-site contest saw Sterling's batters put forth a commendable performance, especially noted during plays from Morales, Emmanuel Huerta Cardenas and Andrew Dutro.

The Warriors showcased a robust hitting performance under sunny skies with a temperature of 66 degrees. Notably, Morales, Cardenas and Dutro each hit a homerun ball and provided three RBI's to the Warriors.

Despite the high offensive output, the Warriors' pitchers struggled to contain Clarke's hitters, ultimately conceding 17 runs. Jackson Califono gave up 10 eared runs, walked five batters and gave up two home run plays, with 25 strikes on 65 pitches. Relievers Eric Villa, Colin Clark and Trenton Canaan each gave up two earned runs

Next for the Warriors is a home double header against Randall University on Feb. 7. Sterling College currently holds a season record of 0-2 and will be looking to secure their first win of the season in the matchup.
