Warriors Fall in Third Game Against KWU

Salina, Kan. – Warrior baseball concluded its season series with (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon with a 21-4 loss in Salina. KWU has worked their way to the top of the KCAC this season, while Sterling sits in ninth place, but is still mathematically able to make the KCAC postseason.

The Warriors struggled to string hits together as a team, but they used the long ball well. After giving up six runs in the first inning, the Warriors recorded back-to-back homeruns by Nicholas Keller and Albert Bisono to make the score 6-2. The team was held scoreless from that point to the top of the seventh inning. They were able to score two runs in the frame. The first came on a pinch hit solo homerun by Aaron Elsasser, the first of his career. The other run came on an RBI single by Andrew Dutro later in the inning that scored Andrew Mason from second base. Sterling ultimately fell to the high powered offens of the Coyotes, 21-4.

Three of Sterling's five hits were homeruns and one other scored the other Warrior run. The other hit in the game came from Joseph Almanza in the sixth inning, but Sterling was not able to capitalize. Troy Sackett was on the mound to start the game and ended up with the loss. Others that made appearances in relief were Kimo Kawelo, Tyler Duffey, and Nate Heffline.

Sterling falls to 18-23, 12-18 in KCAC play. They have two more series before the end of season tournament and they need to make up three games in the standings on the way. This Saturday, they take on the University of Saint Mary. Three winnable games. They take on a nonconference opponent in Oklahoma City University on Tuesday of next week and closes things out with a three game series against McPherson College. If Sterling is able to win all six of their remaining conference games, they should leapfrog some of their conference opponents, including McPherson, to get to the sixth and final spot in the KCAC tournament.
