VB Celebrates Seniors with Two Wins

Sterling, Kan. – Lady Warrior volleyball played two games on Saturday, one conference and one nonconference. The team also took the opportunity to celebrate their seniors between their matches. The conference game was against Southwestern College and the Warriors won 3-1. The nonconference match was against Haskell Indian Nations University and the Warriors won with a 3-0 sweep.

Aliya McClanahan was ready to go for the match against Southwestern. She had 21 kills and 9 blocks in the match. She hit a noteworthy .415. With the blocking performance, she has tied two others for 6th all-time in single game assists. She also showed up earlier this season for a single game performance with 13 blocks. A trio of Warriors had double-digit digs led by Makenna Linden with 15, followed by Grace Battershell with 14, and Nyah Isom with 12. Aubrey Young had an above average 36 assists in the match. Set scores were 25-17, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22.

The second match was one of the best matches of the season for the Warriors. They won 25-10, 25-10, 25-13. This time it was Freshman Chloe Schmidt that stepped up in the front row. She had the majority of the opportunities and she took advantage. She led Sterling with 15 kills, hitting .481. McClanahan had 7 kills, but converted those seven on just 8 attacks for an amazing .875 hitting percentage. Linden once again took care of most of the back row work with 14 digs, and Young was impressive with 30 assists for a 10 assists per set ratio.

The Warriors improve to 12-10 (2-6) this season and have a tough DII matchup on Wednesday against the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Gametime is set for 7 pm.
