Warriors Swept in First Round of KCAC Tournament

Leavenworth, Kan.- After their conference closer match against the University of Saint Mary's on Nov. 6, the Warriors faced off against the Spires again in the opening round of the KCAC Conference Tournament this past Tuesday. The Sterling College volleyball team traveled to the Ryan Sports Center for their opening match, only to come home after a 3-0 sweep against the Spires. This officially ends the Warriors' NAIA season, concluding the regular season at 14-13 with their KCAC record at 4-9 and tenth place overall in the conference.

Sterling was not able to get anything going after the long trip to Leavenworth, and Saint Mary was able to make quick work of the Warriors. The second set for Sterling was their best of the evening, but still took a 5 point loss in the set. The Spires took the game 3-0. The final scores of the sets were 25-11, 25-20, and 25-14.

Those who led the Warriors statistically through the season continued that trend even in the last game. Aliya McClanahan and Emily Peterson recorded 6 kills for the match, followed by Paige Borges with 5 kills. Aubrey Young recorded 16 assists for the Warriors and led the defense with 9 digs. Nyah Isom and Makenna Linden were close behind, recording 8 kills each in their time at the back row.

Sterling has one more chance at a postseason run in the NCCAA DI Central Regional Tournament. Games will be played in Oklahoma City beginning Wednesday, November 15th.
