Lady Warriors Take Ottawa to Five Sets

Ottawa, Kan.-- The Sterling College volleyball team traveled to Ottawa University on Saturday, preparing for a fierce battle with the Braves. In a rigorous 5-set match, the Warriors pushed Ottawa to their limits before ending up with a loss, making their overall record 14-10 and their KCAC record 4-7.

The Warriors came out strong in the first set, gaining a lead early on the court. Late into the set, the Braves found their rhythm, closing in on the score after several kills. The Warriors took set one after a kill from Paige Borges and a ball-handling error by the Braves, closing the set at 26-24.

The Braves came back strong in the second and third sets, gaining massive leads and taking the wins by storm. The Braves left little room for error, taking the second set by 25-15 and the third set by 25-14.

The Warriors regained their fight in the fourth set, pushing all of their energy at the net and earning their second win of the match at 25-21.

Sterling pushed the higher seeded Braves to their limit in the 5th set as it looked like Sterling was going to pull off the upset win. Leading 12-8 in the fifth and deciding set, the Braves did the unthinkable and scored seven of the final eight points to pull off the comeback win, 15-13.

Aliya McClanahan led the Warrior attack with 19 kills at the net, followed by Emily Peterson with 13 recorded kills. Aubrey Young continues to serve as the leading setter, recording 44 assists in the game. The Warriors put up a strong back row against the Braves as Lindsey Kauffman, Makenna Linden, and Aubrey Young recorded 20, 19, and 13 digs, respectively.

The volleyball Warriors wrap up their regular conference season this week, first traveling to Bethany College on Nov. 1 to face the Swedes. Game starts at 7 p.m. They then face the Saint Mary Spires on Nov. 4 at home on the Gleason Courts. Game starts at 2 p.m.
