Men’s Track Opens OTF Season Well at Bethel

North Newton, Kan. – The outdoor track and field season is underway and the Warrior men's team made their presence known. It was a chilly, breezy day with several KCAC schools represented at the meet. It made for a good, early season opportunity to compete with the teams they will see later at the KCAC Championships. The meet was not scored, but several PR's were set as well as meeting NCCAA qualifying standards in five events.

There were several individual highlights as well as having a competitive 4x100 relay team for the first time in several years. Maurice Gray, who we saw excel in indoor, received first place in both the Triple Jump and Long Jump, setting a personal best in the Long Jump and qualifying for the NCCAA National Championships in both events. Cedric Wilson finished third in both the High Jump and 110M Hurdles, and finished seventh in the 400M Hurdles, his first time competing in this event. He hit the NCCAA qualifier in all three events. The 4x100M relay team, consisting of Gray, Titus Sherer, Brandon Doss, and Camden Carr finished fourth in their relay debut. Drake Steele made his collegiate debut and placed eleventh in the Shot Put, narrowly missing the finals. Jacob Bauman finished twelfth in the Discus, set a PR by 2.69 meters, and finished fourteenth in the Shot Put.

Both the men and women compete once again on Thursday at the Emporia State Relays. For complete meet results click here.
