Sterling beats Friends in close match, 4-3

Sterling College women's tennis took on Friends University at home on Thursday, April 3. The Lady Warriors played a tight match and came out with the 4-3 win.

The duo of Giovana Gaboardi and Nadia Margaritov took on Silva Avakian and Carlotta Klee in the no. 1 doubles match getting the 6-3 win. In the no. 2 doubles match Hannah Giordanelli and Greta Fankhauser lost 6-4 to Aneth Diaz and Molly Bender.

The no. 3 doubles match was won by default by Camila Castro Medina and Ana Alvarez as Friends did not have enough athletes to compete, giving Sterling the doubles point.

Singles play proved to be up and down for the Lady Warriors. Alvarez lost the no. 1 match to Avakian, 6-2, 6-2. In the no. 2 singles match, Margaritov won the first set 6-4 but lost the following two 6-2, 6-1 to Diaz.

Gaboardi fell to Klee in the no. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-3. Sterling turned things around in the no. 4 singles match as Giordanelli beat Bender 7-5, 6-1. Match no. 5 and 6 were won by default by Fankhauser and Castro Medina as Friends did not have enough players to compete.
