
Sterling tennis loses conference opener to Oklahoma Wesleyan
Sterling College women's tennis took on Oklahoma Wesleyan University in their conference opener on Saturday, March 1. The score ended 6-1 in favor of the Eagles.
Sterling lost the doubles point 2-1, with Hannah Giordanelli and Greta Fankhauser getting the 7-5 win from #3 doubles spot against Nikoleta Aleksic and Kylie White.
In the #1 doubles spot, Giovana Gaboardi and Nadia Margaritov lost to Rocio Espinal and Jewel Henderson 6-3. Ana Alvarez and Camila Castro Medina represented the Lady Warriors from the #2 doubles position losing 6-1 against Nancy Henderson and Madeline Henderson.
The Lady Warriors continued to struggle in the singles match ups. Alvarez lost to Espinal 6-2, 6-4 in the #1 singles match. In the #2 singles, Margaritov lost 6-3, 6-2 to J. Henderson. Gaboardi represented Sterling in the #3 doubles match up, losing 6-3, 6-4 to N. Henderson.
Giordanelli played the #4 singles match where she lost 6-3, 6-1 to M. Henderson. Brooklyn Kuhn took the #5 single match to tie breaker against Aleksic, losing the first set 6-3, winning the second set 6-2, and losing the tie breaker 1-0. Fankhauser got the Lady Warrior's sole point in the #6 position, beating White 6-1, 6-1.
Sterling will be back in action Saturday, March 8 against Baker University in Sterling, Kan.
