Young Warriors Thrive in Opening Game Rout

Sterling, Kan.-The new season is upon us as the fall of 2023 begins. The Lady Warrior soccer team dominated their first match of the season against the Randall University Saints, putting a 7-0 win in the books. This was the most offensive the Sterling women's team's fans have seen in quite some time.

The day was led by the young talent. All seven goals were scored by Warrior underclassmen. Sophomore, Jessica Gautreau, co-leader in goals scored last season, had her hand in four separate goals. She scored two goals and assisted in another two. Newcomer, Shayna Dale, scored two goals in her Warrior debut to lead the freshman class. Others scoring goals on the afternoon were Madisun Jacobs, who scored her second goal as a Warrior, Elizabeth Watson, and Francesca Vilca.

The seven goals scored in today's match equals half of last season's scoring production. This could mean good things for a Lady Warrior team that is looking to turn things around after struggling for several season.

Sterling takes on Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Saturday, August 26, at 2 pm. Sterling is now 1-0 on the season. OPSU is also 1-0 heading into Saturday's game after beating this same Randall team by a score of 8-0.
