Lady Warriors upset the Valor in first round of KCAC tournament

In the first round of the KCAC tournament, the six seeded Sterling College Lady Warriors came out with something to prove against the number three seeded Evangel Valor. The teams faced up on Thursday, Feb. 27 with the Warriors coming out with a commanding 97-63 victory.

The game was back and forth for the first five minutes until the Lady Warriors went on a 14-7 run to close out the first quarter. From there it was no looking back, as Sterling extended their lead to 51-31 by halftime.

Kali Briar had a big first half, coming off the bench and scoring all 15 of her points in the opening two quarters. She ended the game leading the Lady Warriors in assists and steals with five and four, respectively.

Other stand out performances for Sterling include Korynn Clason who led all scorers with 28 points while also contributing three steals. McKenna Vogl and Alissa Heskamp also scored in double figures with 16 and 14, respectively.

Heskamp also contributed four steals and three assists while Vogl and Alex Bearup led the Lady Warriors in rebounds with six each.

As a team, Sterling came away with 21 steals and forced the Valor into 35 turnovers which the Lady Warriors turned into 40 points.

With this victory, Sterling advances to the second round of the KCAC tournament and will face the number two seed Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. on Saturday, March 1.
