Lady Warriors lose steam in regular season finale against Evangel

In an intense final regular season showdown, the Sterling College Lady Warriors basketball team succumbed to a 77-63 defeat against Evangel on Saturday, Feb. 22. The competitive spirit was palpable as both teams displayed strong performances, but Evangel ultimately clinched the victory in this critical conference game.

The game started off close, with Evangel taking a narrow lead of 21-20 by the end of the first period. Both teams fought valiantly, ending the first half tied at 39 points each. Sterling showed promise in the third quarter, taking a slight lead with a score of 59-56, thanks to the efforts of Korynn Clason and Alissa Heskamp, who both scored 23 points, with Heskamp adding 4 assists and 4 steals to her impressive stats.

However, the fourth quarter saw Sterling struggling to maintain their momentum, being outscored 21-4 by Evangel. Despite strong performances from Sterling's players, including Bailey Young, who put up 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, and McKenna Vogl, who contributed 3 steals and 2 blocks, Evangel's defense proved too robust.

With the loss, the Lady Warriors will gain the #6 seed for the KCAC tournament. They will travel back to Springfield, Mo. to take on the #3 seed, Evangel University on Thursday, February 27. The team looks forward to this opportunity for redemption and a chance to showcase their resilience and skill in this highly anticipated rematch.
