Lady Warriors fight off the Falcons for the win

In a closely contested basketball showdown at Gleason Center on February 13, 2025, the Sterling College Lady Warriors edged out a thrilling 83-80 victory against the Friends University Falcons. The win comes as an essential boost to the Lady Warriors' season record, now standing at 16-9 overall, 12-7 in conference play.

The game began with the Falcons taking an early lead, but Sterling's Alissa Heskamp quickly made her presence felt, scoring multiple jumpers to narrow the gap. By halftime, the Lady Warriors had turned the tables, entering the break with a slight lead of 44-41. Heskamp was a standout throughout, finishing the game as top scorer with 25 points.

Alex Bearup also had a remarkable performance, contributing across the board with 14 points, eight assists, and 10 rebounds, further showcasing her pivotal role in the team's dynamics. The combination of strong defense and quick breaks led Sterling to build an eight-point lead by the end of the third period, setting the stage for a tense final quarter.

Despite a late surge by the Falcons, Sterling held their ground with critical plays, including a crucial three-pointer by Bearup in the dying minutes, sealing the victory. The Lady Warriors showed great resilience and strategic execution, particularly in their defensive efforts, which were integral to their success.

Sterling is set to maintain their momentum against Avila University (7-12, 7-18) on February 15, hoping to further improve their impressive record in another home matchup at Gleason Center.
