Lady Warriors fall to Bluejays
In a challenging encounter at Tabor College Gymnasium on Feb. 1, the Sterling College Warriors faced a tough defeat against the Tabor Lady Bluejays, with a final score of 56-71. Despite a spirited second-half performance, the Warriors couldn't overcome the early lead established by Tabor.
The game began unfavorably for Sterling as Tabor initiated an 11-0 run. The Lady Warriors, unable to recover from the early disadvantage, ended the first half trailing significantly with a halftime score of 20-37. Though they started the second half energetically with an 8-2 run, the Lady Bluejays maintained their dominance throughout, leading them to victory.
Sterling's Korynn Clason emerged as the top scorer for her team with 15 points, followed by Bailey Young with 10 points. Other notable performances included Alissa Heskamp with eight points and Kali Briar who contributed six points along with three steals, showcasing their commitment despite the tough game. Alex Bearup also made notable contributions with four points, six rebounds, a steal, and an assist.
Although the outcome was not in favor of Sterling, the team showed resilience and a will to fight back. The Warriors are now preparing to face Bethel College (10-5, 12-10) on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at North Newton, Kan. With a current record of 13-10 overall and 9-8 in the league, the team is looking to regroup and capture a much-needed win in their forthcoming contest.
