Lady Warriors edge out the valor in a nail-biter at the Gleason Center

In an exhilarating display of collegiate basketball, the Sterling College Lady Warriors secured a narrow victory against the Evangel University Lady Valor with a final score of 83-82 on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Gleason Center. The game, marked by intense competition and strategic plays, ended in favor of Sterling College, boosting their season record to 9-5 in conference play, 13-7 overall.

The first half concluded with Sterling holding a slight lead at 38-36, setting the stage for a dramatic second half. Key performances came from Alissa Heskamp, who topped the scoring for Sterling College with 21 points, followed closely by Kali Briar with 20 points, and Korynn Clason who added 17 points. The trio's scoring was crucial in maintaining the narrow lead throughout the game.

Sterling College notably excelled in capitalizing on turnovers, scoring 28 points off of Evangel's 22 turnovers, which decisively contributed to their victory. Defensively, Heskamp led the Lady Warriors in rebounding with five and Alex Bearup led in assists with four while also chipping in two steals. Briar led Sterling in steals with three and also threw three assists into the mix.

As they celebrate this thrilling victory, the Lady Warriors prepare to host Kansas Wesleyan University (12-1, 16-3) on Jan. 29, 2025. The upcoming game promises to be another exciting event for Sterling College as they aim to improve their impressive season performance.
