Lady Warriors Take First Loss of the Season to Doane
Crete, Neb. – The Lady Warriors finished their gauntlet of nonconference road games Tuesday night. It ended with the Lady Warriors taking their first loss of the season by a final score of 92-73. Sterling was previously undefeated, not being challenged in their first four wins.
Sterling and Doane went back and forth until midway through the first quarter. Doane started pulling away as the first ten minutes came to a close. They continued to push the lead throughout the second quarter and took a 44-33 lead into the break. Sterling kept themselves at arm's length most of the game, trailing most of the game by just eight to ten points. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Tigers really got comfortable as Sterling tried to make a last minute push. They were not able to cut into the Doane lead and ended up taking the nineteen point loss.
Korynn Clason continued her hot start in this young season leading Sterling with 21 points. Alissa Heskamp scored 16 points on 5-6 shooting from the field and going 6-7 from the free throw line. McKenna Vogl, fresh off of her first double-double of the season, had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Kayla Morris was efficient off the bench, collecting 6 rebounds as well.
Sterling is now 4-1 as they head into conference play. The Warriors travel to York University on Saturday for a 1 pm tipoff. They look to jump out early in KCAC play as they look to improve upon their 9th place finish in the league last season.
