Lady Warriors Take Care of Business on Weekend Road Trip

The Lady Warriors continue their hot start to the season and continue to succeed while playing on the road. Sterling does not play a home game until after the KCAC season has begun. Friday afternoon, the Lady Warriors got the weekend started with a 79-63 win over Haskell University in Lawrence, Kan. From there they traveled to Lamoni, Iowa to take on the Graceland University Yellowjackets. That game was not a close contest with Sterling winning 94-67, a score that was actually closer than it was most of the game.

Korynn Clason continued to play well as did newcomer, McKenna Vogl, against Haskell University. Both players score 16 points to lead Sterling. Vogl was also the leading rebounder with 7. Kali Briar got it done on defense the defensive end for the Warriors racking up five steals.

The second game of the weekend was not as close as the score. Sterling allowed Graceland to eat into their lead as time was winding down. The Warrior's largest lead was 45 points. Clason could not be stopped, scoring 30 points and 7 rebounds in the win. Vogl matched her Friday performance with another 16 points on Saturday, adding 10 rebounds to earn her first double-double of the season. She has now scored exactly 16 points in three of the first four games of the season. Alissa Heskamp distributed the ball well with 5 assists to go along with her 6 points. Kayla Morris came off the bench to add 19 points and 6 rebounds.

Sterling has played very well early on this season. The Lady Warriors have avoided putting any tallies in the loss column yet, and carry a 4-0 record into the final week of nonconference play. They close out their nonconference early season games on Tuesday night when they head to Doane University for a 6 pm start. KCAC play begins next Saturday when the Lady Warriors travel to York University. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
