Warriors Lose After Late Run by Eagles

Kansas City, Mo. – The Lady Warriors were in control most of the game, but a late run by Avila proved to be costly as Sterling lost to Avila 66-59.

Sterling took control early winning the first quarter 21-6. Kali Briar had the hot hand making everything she put up. She was 3-3 from three-point range and 2-2 from the free throw line for 11 first quarter points. It looked like Sterling was going to cruise to an easy victory. Avila took a big step in getting back into the game by outscoring the Warriors 18-11 in the second quarter, giving Sterling a 32-24 halftime lead.

Avila kept pace with Sterling's scoring in the third quarter. Each team scored 16 points giving the Warriors an eight point lead heading into the fourth quarter. As much as Sterling was in control in the first quarter, Avila was in control in the fourth quarter. Avila outscored the Warriors by 15 in the fourth quarter giving them the 66-59 win.

Briar led the Warriors in scoring with 18 points. Right behind her was Korynn Clason with 16 points and 7 rebounds.

With the loss, Sterling drops to 11-14 (8-11) this season. After tonight's game, they are tied with Avila fighting for the 8th spot in the KCAC tournament. There are three games remaining in the season and two of those games will be played against teams currently ranked lower than Sterling in the KCAC standings. There next game is Saturday, on the road, against Evangel University.
