Lady Warriors Nearly Upset Falcons

Wichita, Kan. – The Lady Warriors had a tough challenge Saturday as they faced a thriving Friends University Falcons team, who sat in third place in the KCAC heading into this game. The Warriors gave themselves every opportunity but gave up a lead in the fourth quarter, falling the Falcons 79-75.

It was a slow start for both teams as they combined for just 20 points in the opening quarter. Sterling held onto a 30-29 lead heading into the locker rooms, after giving up a last-second heave to Friends.

The third quarter was back and forth with both teams holding leads. The largest lead was just four throughout the quarter, until the Warrior's Alissa Heskamp dropped in a bucket as time expired in the third quarter to give Sterling a 50-45 lead with ten minutes to play.

The Falcons scored the first seven points in the fourth quarter and took a lead they would not relinquish, although the Warriors were able to tie it up once. The Lady Warriors had opportunities down the stretch to tie or take a lead, but were not able to turn the corner and change the momentum in their favor. The final result was a 79-75 road loss for the Warriors.

Heskamp was the leading scorer for Sterling with 25 points. Korynn Clason was right behind her with 23 points, also bringing in 8 rebounds. Evie Gill dished out 5 assists for the Warriors with Kali Briar adding 4.

The Lady Warriors are now 7-9 (4-6) after losing four in a row. They look to recover Wednesday evening in the Gleason Center as they host the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes. Kansas Wesleyan is 8-8 (6-4) this season and sits in a four-way tie for fourth place in the KCAC standings.
