Hot Start Not Enough as Warriors Fall to Eagles

Sterling, Kan.- Four Warriors scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Sterling fell to Oklahoma Wesleyan on the road Saturday, 75-65.

Sterling jumped out to a 22-14 first quarter lead before the OKWU took over early in the second quarter. Once the Eagles captured the lead, they never let it go. Sterling was outscored 25-11 in the second quarter, finding themselves in a 39-33 hole at halftime.

Sterling cut the lead to two several times in the second half, but could not get over the hump despite their best efforts. Sterling was able to win the rebound battle, but struggles shooting from the field and going minus ten in turnovers made the difference in the game.

Korynn Clason once again led the offensive charge for Sterling with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. Alissa Heskamp was not far behind with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Kayla Morris had a solid performance with 12 points and 8 rebounds, four of them offensive, nearly missing a double-double.

The Lady Warriors return to the Gleason Center on Wednesday, January 10th, at 6 pm to take on the Bethel College Threshers. Sterling sits in a six-way tie with the Threshers for the fifth spot in the KCAC standings.
