Inconsistent Offense Costs Lady Warriors

Sterling, Kan. – The Lady Warriors fall to 1-1 in KCAC play Saturday afternoon after taking a 73-57 loss to the University of Saint Mary Spires. Sterling won the first quarter, but was not able to keep pace with the Spires from that point on.

After outscoring the Spires 22-21 in the first ten minutes, Sterling struggled to find the basket in the second quarter. Sterling made just two field goals in the second frame allowing Saint Mary to create some space on the scoreboard. Although Sterling only scored 7 points in the second quarter, Saint Mary allowed the Warriors to stay within arm's reach scoring just 14 points of their own. Tanea Sims and Korynn Clason were the big stories of the first half, each player carrying their teams. Sims and Clason scored 15 and 13, respectively, for their teams.

Saint Mary was able to pull away in the second half. Sterling's inconsistent scoring continued as they scored 17 in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth quarter. The Warrior's last real chance to make a comeback came early in the fourth quarter. Sterling cut the Spire lead to just 2 points at 54-52, but 5 straight points started to take the wind out of the Warriors.

Clason now has back-to-back 20 point games as she totaled 23 in tonight's contest. She also grabbed 5 rebounds and led Sterling's defense with 3 steals. Alyssa Heskamp was the only other double-digit scorer with 14 points and she also led Sterling with 7 rebounds.

Sterling is now 1-4 this season, 1-1 in KCAC play. Sterling takes on Oklahoma City University in another nonconference opponent Tuesday evening in the Gleason Center before taking a few days off for the Thanksgiving holiday. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 6 pm.
