Sims Has 26 in Road Win Over Warriors

Sterling, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Basketball team traveled to play Sterling Warriors on Saturday, resulting in a 73-57 win. The Spires are now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the KCAC.

Saint Mary struck first, with layups made by Paige Pendley and Keely Barnard, but the Warriors had an answer and tied the game up at six. The Spires responded by putting up 13 points, eight created by Tanea Sims and five from Alanis Delgado, making it a 15-12 game.

A three made by Rebecca Gilpin helped the Spires extend the lead by four, resulting in a score of 30-26 with 3:35 remaining in the second quarter. This lead caused the Warriors to call a timeout to try and slow things down to cut the lead to one. Five consecutive points by Sims helped Saint Mary go into the break leading by 35-29.

Saint Mary kept the offensive momentum going in the third quarter and extended their lead to 11. The Warriors tried to mount a comeback by again chipping away at the growing Spire lead. Saint Mary had to retake the offensive momentum to help put the game away with threes from Gilpin and Demi Aamold, making the final score 67-55.

Tanea Sims finished the night recording her second double-double of the year, having 26 points and 12 rebounds. Delgado and Pendley combined for 24 points and 10 assists.
