Softball Meets Match at Friends

Wichita, Kan. – Lady Warrior softball met their match on Saturday against the Friends University Falcons. They played a double header and lost 8-0 in game one, and fell 9-4 in game two.

Game 1 – Sterling 0, Friends 8

Game one was a tough matchup for the Lady Warrior bats. They did not record a hit which led to the 8-0 loss. Alexis Hillhouse was the lone Warrior to successfully reach base with a one out walk in the first, but she was stranded at second base after advancing on a ground ball.

MacKenzie Viehland was the starting pitcher for Sterling and she pitched the first inning before Alyssa Mason came in for the final three and a third innings. Viehland took the loss.

Game 2 – Sterling 4, Friends 9

Sterling's bats were a little more active in game two but were still outmatched by the Falcons. The Warriors played well behind the pitching of Allie Olivarria for three innings allowing just one run into the fourth. Friends scored six runs in the fourth being helped by a two-out Warrior error that opened the opportunity for all of the runs to come across in the inning. Sterling mustered four hits and four runs, with all of the runs coming in the fifth inning. They took advantage of an error, a single, and a walk before Hillhouse delivered a base-clearing double that scored three runs. In the next at bat, Desiree Perales knocked in Hillhouse with a single to left. That did it for Sterling's offense in the game. Friends tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to make the final 9-4.

Ollivaria pitched well in the loss giving up just three earned runs over six innings while striking out seven. She is now 14-6 this season, currently second in the KCAC in wins this season.

Sterling is 19-21 this season with a KCAC record of 7-13. The Lady Warriors head to Tabor College on Wednesday afternoon before returning home Saturday for Senior Day against Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
