Softball Drops Two at Ottawa

Ottawa, Kan. – The Lady Warriors struggled once again to find their offense as they lost both games of a doubleheader to Ottawa University on Tuesday. Sterling lost both games by run rule, 11-0 and 8-0.

Game 1 – Sterling 0, Ottawa 11

Ottawa had consistent offense in the first game scoring three runs right out of the gate. They scored one run in each of the second and third innings, and finished things off by scoring six in the fourth inning. Cheyenne Cunningham started the game with a leadoff single, but the Sterling didn't get another hit until the fourth inning. Sterling's three hits came from Cunningham, Desiree Perales, and Sam Graham. Alyssa Mason started in the pitcher's circle and took the loss, pitching just over three innings and striking out two batters.

Game 2 – Sterling 0, Ottawa 8

The second game was not much better. Sterling ended the game with four hits, and the consistency of Ottawa's offense was on display again. Allie Olivarria kept the Braves scoreless for two innings, but then they scored 4 in the third, one each in the fourth and fifth, and two more in the sixth. Sterling's four hits came from Mason in the second, Aiyana Campos in the fourth, Alexis Hillhouse in the fifth, and Rozzalin Mendoza in the sixth. Olivarria pitched the full game striking out three batters.

With four straight losses, Sterling has dropped two places in the KCAC standings currently putting them in tenth place with work to be done in order to make the KCAC tournament the first week of May. The Warriors are now 19-19 this season and 7-11 in KCAC competition. They go on the road this weekend to take on the Friends University Falcons with games scheduled to start at 1 and 3 pm.
