Softball Shutout by Valor

Sterling, Kan. – The Lady Warriors, one of the top hitting teams in the country, met their match against top-notch pitching in the Evangel Valor. Evangel's pitching staff was nearly untouchable as Sterling got outscored 13-0 in a double header against the Valor.

Game 1 – Sterling 0, Evangel 6

Sterling got one hit in this game. The story of this game was Maddy Meierer who had a perfect game going into the sixth inning. The perfect game was broken up by a two out single in the sixth by Phoebi Waller, but she was eventually caught stealing and Meierer faced the minimum 21 batters. Alyssa Mason was the pitcher for Sterling. She got off to a rough start that allowed four runs to score on just one hit. She gave up three walks and hit one batter in the inning. Another batter hit by a pitch in the second inning came around to score as well in the second inning. Evangel put up one more run in the fifth inning to round out the scoring in game one.

Game 2 – Sterling 0, Evangel 7

Allie Olivarria took a rare loss in game two of the double header. She pitched all but one out of the game and gave up five earned runs, seven total, on ten hits. She struck out three and walked six. The Warriors scraped together just three hits, one each from Mason, Rozzalin Mendoza, and Kelly Hirlas. They were just not able to put anything together offensively, which says a lot about the Valor pitching this afternoon taking on arguably the best offense in the KCAC as of late.

Sterling now drops to 19-17 overall and 7-9 in the KCAC. The gauntlet continues for Sterling as they take on another top team in Ottawa University on Tuesday afternoon on the road.
