Olivarria Pitches Two-Hitter; Warriors Get Split

McPherson, Kan. – The Lady Warriors earned a split with the McPherson College Bulldogs. After struggling to find hits in game one, the bats came alive in game two. Match that with an excellent pitching performance by Allie Olivarria and it made the right combination for a second game win. Sterling lost in game 1, 5-2, and won game two, 7-0, in an injury-shortened game.

Game 1 – Sterling 2, McPherson 5

Sterling got on the board early scoring a run in the first on a single by Desiree Perales that scored Cheyenne Cunningham. McPherson's answer came in the third and fourth innings with 3 in the third and 2 in the fourth. Sterling responded with another run in the fifth. Alyssa Mason hit a sacrifice fly scoring Sam Graham to make the final score 5-2.

Perales was the lone Warrior hitter with more than one hit and Cunningham took four walks in the game. Mason was the starter for the Warriors and took the loss giving up all 5 runs. She also had 4 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Game 2 – Sterling 7, McPherson 0

In game 2 the Lady Warriors took advantage of Bulldog errors and scored 7 runs on 5 hits. Mason and Aiyana Campos each scored two runs. Sterling scored one in the second, and scored their big inning with five runs in the third, and tacked on one more run in the fourth.

It took Sterling just five hits to score their seven runs. Allie Olivarria picked up her 12th win of the season. She pitched all five innings in the shortened game and gave up just two hits, and struck out six batters ensuring the win. Olivarria stays atop the KCAC in wins this season and is one of the top in ERA.

The Lady Warriors are 17-13 and 5-5 in the KCAC, right in the mix to make a move to fill one of the KCAC Conference Tournament spots. Sterling has a quick turnaround and plays Avila, the top team in the KCAC, on Saturday.
