Lady Warriors Finish with Split Against Langston

Langston, Okla. – A first game comeback fell just short for the Lady Warriors as they lost 7-6 in the opener, but regrouped in the second game of the mid-week doubleheader and won by run rule, 11-2.

Game 1 – Sterling 6, Langston 7

The Warriors tallied 13 hits, but it just wasn't enough as their comeback bid fell short in the late innings. Sterling gave up four runs in the second, but gained five back in the fifth to take their first lead of the game. The lead was short lived as they gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, and that was the last they would hold a lead. They tied the game at 6 in the top of the seventh, but Langston scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Sterling had three hits each from Desiree Perales and Aiyana Campos, and two hits from Alexis Hillhouse and Phoebi Waller. Perales, Madilynn Green, and Kelly Hirlas knocked in two runs each for Sterling.

Alyssa Mason went the distance and took the loss. She pitched six and two-thirds innings giving up 7 runs on 12 hits. She struck out 4 and walked 3.

Game 2 – Sterling 11, Langston 2

The hitting barrage continued in game two as Sterling impressively improved on their thirteen hits in game one and added seventeen more in game two. Sterling scored in droves, scoring 1 in the first, 3 in in the third, and 7 in the sixth. Three players, Campos, Hirlas, and Sam Graham, had three hits and six total players had a multi-hit game. Campos knocked in three runs, and Graham, two. Sterling hit for six doubles in the game.

Allie Olivarria pitched the complete game going six strong innings allowing just 2 runs. She gave up 8 hits and struck out 4.

Sterling is now 10-8 this season and heads into a weekend double header on Saturday against Ecclesia College. This is the final action before conference play begins next Tuesday.
