Warriors Go 3-1 on Dallas Trip

The Warrior Softball team played four games in the Dallas area on Friday and Saturday going 3-1 in the four games played. They lost the first game of the weekend but are now on a three game win streak after winning the final three games.

Game 1 – Sterling 2, Howard Payne 6

The offense started slow for Sterling as the weekend got rolling, only scoring 2 runs in the first game of the weekend. Kelly Hirlas hit a 2 run single to right field and that was it for the Warrior offense. Sterling briefly held a 2-1 lead, but two more runs by HPU gave them a 3-2 lead and then added 3 security runs in the sixth inning.

Five Warriors had hits in the game. Alyssa Mason pitched five and a third innings and gave up all 6 runs, only three were earned and she struck out three. MacKenzie Viehland finished the game and recorded one strikeout.

Game 2 – Sterling 13, Howard Payne 4

The second game of the double header went much better for the Warriors as their offense flourished. Sterling scored three in the third, one in the fourth, seven in the fifth, and two in the sixth.

Seven different Warriors had at least one hit in the contest, with Desiree Perales leading the way with 3 hits, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. They were aggressive on the base paths as well with Mason stealing two bases, with Aiyana Campos and Cheyenne Cunningham stealing a base each as well.

Allie Olivarria pitched the complete game for the win, her third win of the week. She gave up 4 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts, and 3 walks.

Game 3 – Sterling 11, Univ. of Dallas 3

The offensive onslaught continued into Saturday with Sterling scoring in each of the 5 innings and running away with a run-rule victory. The game was never in doubt as Sterling scored early and often.

Sterling had 2 RBIs from Campos, Mason, and Mallory Seidel, Sam Graham and Rozzalin Mendoza each had one. They also stole 9 bases as a team with 3 from Cunningham.

Mason was once again the pitcher of record, this time earning the win. She pitched the complete game, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and recorded a strikeout.

Game 4 – Sterling 10, Univ. of Dallas 5

It took a comeback and extra innings, but Sterling was able to complete the sweep and give themselves a three game win streak.

Sterling trailed late and had to score 2 runs in the 7th to send the game into extra innings. Once they did, Sterling put the game away scoring 6 runs in the extra frame. The Warriors were led by Hirlas with 3 hits, followed by Alexis Hillhouse and Mason with two each. Sterling combined for 12 hits. Hirlas had two doubles in the game and Mason had one.
