Sterling Loses Final Conference Games to (RV) OKWU

Sterling, Kan- Sterling College faced their last opponent for the conference season this past weekend, losing both games of a double-header to the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles.

Game One- Sterling -2                     Oklahoma Wesleyan -5

Sterling faced one of the top pitchers in the KCAC in game one and held their own for a long time thanks in large part to Sterling's pitcher, Alyssa Mason, and solid defensive play by the Warriors. After three innings of tight defense from both teams, the Eagles scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. They then scored one run in the sixth inning, and three runs in the seventh inning.

The Warriors responded with two runs in the seventh inning. It started with Bailey Garber's single, followed by Julie Beyale's single. Both of them stole the next base during Maria Castillas' strikeout. Kelly Hirlas singled, allowing Garber and Beyale to score. The inning finished on a strikeout and a quick play by the Eagles to catch Hirlas out on second, making the final score 2-5.

Alyssa Mason pitched the entire game for the Warriors, taking the loss. She gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out seven Eagle batters. Garber, Beyale and Hirlas had two hits each accounting for all but one of Sterling's hits. Hirlas was credited with both Sterling RBIs.

Game Two- Sterling -0                     Oklahoma Wesleyan -14

The Warriors were run-ruled by the Eagles in their final game. The Eagles consistently put up runs in each inning. They made one run in the first inning, six runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning, and one run in the fifth inning.

Adrianna Castillo got the start and took the loss with Allie Olivarria coming in in relief. Sterling's lone hit came on an Alyssa Mason double with one out in the first inning.

These final games concluded softball's KCAC record at 6-18 and ranked 11 overall in the KCAC.
