Softball Splits with McPherson

Sterling, Kan-The Sterling College Warriors softball team took on McPherson College in a doubleheader, gaining a win and a loss on their record. Despite the rough score of the first game, the Warriors stayed strong and responded with a fighting spirit in the second game, snatching a win on their home field.

Game One- Sterling -3 McPherson -10

The Warriors started strong in their first game against the Bulldogs, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to match three runs by the Bulldogs. Sam Araiza and Alyssa Mason were both hit by pitches to get the first two runners on for Sterling. Araiza scored after an error made by third base allowing Aiyana Campos to reach second base. The Bulldogs collected an out. Brennah Jimenez singled to right field allowing Campos and Mason to score. Beyale was walked but didn't stay on the bases long after the Bulldogs managed a double play on a line drive back to the pitcher as Beyale was doubled up on first.

The rest of the game was kept short for the Warriors as they did not record another hit the rest of the game. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the third inning, one run in the sixth inning, and four runs in the seventh inning. The final score was 10-3 for the Bulldogs.

Alyssa Mason went six and one third innings in her start for the Warriors. Mason allowed all 10 runs on 13 hits and notched two strikeouts. Adison Overbey came in in relief and recorded the final two outs for Sterling.

Game Two- Sterling -3 McPherson -0

The Warriors pulled a win out from the Bulldogs in the second game with a consistent defense. Sterling pulled ahead early in the first inning, scoring two runs made by Araiza and Mason. It started with Araiza's double to the left center. Mason followed with a single, then stole second to put herself in scoring position. Araiza scored on Campos' single to right field. Campos stole second, putting two Warriors in position for runs. Jimenez flew out on a sacrifice fly, allowing Mason to score.

After a short attack from the Bulldogs, the Warriors scored another run in the second inning. Madilynn Green sent a double down the left line. Makenna Linden tripled, allowing Green to score. In a series of pop-up outs the Warriors were cut short in their attack, finishing the inning 3-0 in favor of the Warriors.

The rest of the game passed by quickly as both teams were locked in a tight defense. Adrianna Castillo took the win for the Warriors on the mound, giving up just seven hits and allowing zero runs, and striking out two Bulldog batters.

Sterling continues their conference season on April 3, in Wichita, Kan. against the Friends University Falcons. The first pitch is at 5 pm.
