XC Closes Season at KCAC Championships
Leavenworth, Kan. – The KCAC Cross Country season has come to a close, thus closing the books on the Warrior's season as well. Saturday's KCAC Cross Country Championships were hosted by the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan. An already challenging course with significant elevation gain was made more difficult with the overnight rain. By the end of the day, athletes had to navigate mud, puddles, and other challenges.
The women were led by sophomore Janie Perico, placing 47th. Janie likely would have placed much higher, but lost a shoe 600m into the race. She ran the next three miles of the race with only one shoe, and still performed extremely well.
The men were led once again by freshman Daryen Jefferson, placing 69th. In his final race as a Warrior, Senior Dawson Urwiller ran a career best of 30:20.
Both teams finished 11th of 13. For complete results, click here.
"I am proud of the way our athletes competed today amidst the difficult conditions," said Head Coach, Mason Blevins. "Janie Perico was the highlight of the day, with a strong performance despite doing so with one barefoot. The progress she has made this season has been incredible and I can't wait to see how that carries over to the track. We made continual strides as a team this fall, and expect this season to be a catalyst for continued growth and development. Thankful for each of our athletes and the work they put into this season."
