Record Setting Event for Warrior Cross Country

Winfield, Kan. – It was a record-setting morning for Sterling College Cross Country. This weekend's Mid-States Classic was the first time the Warrior women's team ran a 6k race in competition. This season, Changes were made for NAIA championship events to match what the NCAA currently does, so the women's championship events will be 6k events while the men will continue to run 8k.

Janie Perico, current 6k record holder at Sterling College, ran the race in 28:54.4. That was good enough for a 35th place finish at the event. Sydney VanHorn was the other female runner competing in her first 6k race, and she finished with a time of 32:02.8. Dawson Urwiller represented the Warrior men in the 8k finishing with a time of 32:36.0.

This was a good "test-run" for the Cross Country team with the KCAC Conference meet coming up in a couple weeks. The KCAC Championships will be run on the same course as the Mid-States meet. Conditions were less than favorable with temperatures already in the mid 80's during the men's race.
