Personal bests, podium finishes for the Warriors at the KCAC Championships
Sterling College track and field had many personal bests and podium finishes at the KCAC Track and Field Championships held in Salina, Kan. on Thursday and Friday, May 1-2.
The men's team finished seventh with a total of 36.5 points.
In the jumps, Maurice Gray led the Warriors with a second-place finish in the long jump with a personal best and new school record jump of 7.27m (23-10.25). Trey Dixon and Charles Jones also scored points in the long jump with sixth and seventh place finishes with marks of 7.07m (23-2.25) and 7.05m (23-1.5), respectively.
Jones and Gray also competed in the triple jump finishing fourth and 11th with jumps of 14.40m (47-3) and 13.46m (44-2), respectively.
In the high jump, Cedric Wilson jumped a personal best, 1.96m (6-5.25) to finish tied for third. Charles also jumped a 1.96m (6-5.25) in the high jump and finished tied for sixth due to misses.
Wilson also competed in the pole vault where he finished 10th with a clearance of 3.50m (11-5.75).
In the throws, Blake Robertson led Sterling with a sixth place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.51m (149-4). Malachi Bell and Brayden Kermode also competed in the hammer throw where they placed 10th and 26th with marks of 42.10m (138-1) and 30.93m (101-6), respectively.
Robertson also scored points in the discus with a mark of 46.59m (152-10) to place fifth. Kermode also competed in the discus where he finished 20th with a throw of 35.19m (115-5).
In the shot put, Bell and Kermode placed 19th and 21st with throws of 12.17m (39-11.25) and 10.87m (35-8), respectively.
Landon Pfannenstiel and Tod Mastin represented the Warriors in the javelin throw. Pfannenstiel placed 14th with a throw of 44.53m (148-0) and Mastin finished 15th with a mark of 38.64 (126-9).
On the track, Dixon scored points for the Warriors in the 100m dash running a 11.03 to finish seventh. He also competed in the 200m dash where he placed 9th with a time of 22.15.
Camden Carr also competed in the 200m dash where he ran a time of 24.21 to place 43rd.
In the distance races, Daryen Jefferson ran in the 5000m run, finishing 17th with a time of 16:02.65 while Wesley Brantley ran in the 800m run, placing 39th with a time of 2:18.08.
On the women's side, Aliya McClanahan led the Lady Warriors scoring all five of the team's points with a fourth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 38.07m (124-11) to help the women finish 11th.
McClanahan also competed in the javelin where she finished ninth with a personal best throw of 33.32m (109-4) and in the shot put she threw a 10.53 (34-6.5) to place 13th.
On the track, the trio of Janie Perico, Lana Rodriguez and Audrey Blake competed in the 1500m run where they finished 17th, 19th and 20th with times of 5:31.19, 6:27.27 and 6:59.00, respectively.
Rodriguez also competed in the 3000m Steeplechase where she ran a time of 14:33.44 to place 11th.
Sterling College's season will continue at the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Columbia, S.C., May 7-9.
