Warriors compete in the Friends University Spring Opener

Sterling College track and field competed in the Friends University Spring Opener on Wednesday through Friday, April 2-4.

For the men on the track, Wesley Brantley competed in the 800m run where he finished 23rd with a time of 2:18.21. Daryen Jefferson represented the Warriors in the 1500m run where he ran a time of 4:29.38 to place 16th.

In the throws, Blake Robertson placed third in the discus with a throw of 45.42m (149-0) while Brayden Kermode threw a 33.28m (109-2) to finish 27th. In the shot put, Malachi Bell placed 22nd with a throw of 11.59m (38-0.25) and Kermode finished 26th with a mark of 10.19m (33-5.25).

The trio also competed in the hammer throw with Robertson placing seventh with a throw of 41.54m (136-3), Bell finishing 13th with a mark of 39.27m (128-10) and Kermode throwing a 36.4m (119-5) to place 17th.

In the jumps, Charles Jones tied for fourth in the high jump clearing 1.95m (6-4.75). Maurice Gray competed in the triple jump where he placed ninth with a jump of 13.44m (44-1.25).

Gray also placed third in the long jump with a jump of 6.99m (22-11.25). Trey Dixon and Jones also competed in the long jump finishing fourth and seventh with marks of 6.83m (22-5) and 6.34m (20-9.75), respectively.

Tod Mastin competed in the men's decathlon scoring 3,795 points to place seventh. His marks through ten events include: 100m dash, 12.01m, 637 points; long jump, 5.83m (19-1.5), 550 points; shot put, 9.07m (29-9.25), 430 points; high jump, 1.61m (5-3.25), 472 points; 400m dash, 59.26, 439 points; 110 high hurdles, 20.81, 288 points; discus, 25.33 (83-1), 373 points; pole vault, NH, 0 points; javelin, 37.08m (121-8), 302 points; and 1500m run, 6:14.95, 206 points.

On the women's side, Janie Perico and Audrey Blake competed in the 1500m run where they finished 12th and 19th with times of 5:39.33 and 6:56.00, respectively.

Representing the Lady Warriors in the throws was Aliya McClanahan. She competed in the shot put where she placed 13th with a throw of 10.88m (35-8.25) and threw a 31.28m (102-7) in the discus to finish 15th.
