
Warriors qualify two for NCCAA nationals in season opener
Sterling College outdoor track and field opened up their season at the Bethel Invite on Saturday, March 22 in North Newton, Kan.
On the men's side, both Charles Jones and Blake Robertson qualified for the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Jones in the long and triple jump and Robertson in the shot put, discus and hammer throw.
Jones led the Warriors in the jumps finishing first in the triple jump with a mark of 14.33m (47-0.25) and second in the long jump with a leap of 6.77m (22-10).
In the throws, Blake Robertson led the Warriors in the shot put with a throw of 15.03m (49-4) to place third. Robertson also finished fifth and sixth in the discus and the hammer with throws of 43.60m (143-1) and 41.82m (137-2) respectively.
Malachi Bell and Brayden Kermode also represented Sterling in the throws. In the hammer, Bell and Kermode placed 13th and 17th with throws of 39.18m (128-7) and 34.61m (113-7), respectively. Bell also competed in the shot put where he finished 14th with a throw of 12.54m (41-1.75). Kermode competed in the discus and the shot up where he threw 35.77m (117-4) and 10.6m (34-9.25), respectively.
On the track, Daryen Jefferson ran a time of 11:05.82 in the 3000m steeplechase to place fourth. Wesley Brantley represented the Warriors in the 800m run finishing 12th with a time of 2:26.06.
For the women, Aliya McClanahan represented the Lady Warriors in the throws. She placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 32.42m (106-4) and finished 14th in the shot put with a heave of 7.9m (25-11).
On the track, Janie Perico and Lana Rodriguez competed in the 1500m run. Perico finished 5th with a time of 5:39.9 while Rodriguez ran a time of 6:29.42 to place 11th.
