Warrior OTF Faces Tough Competition at Emporia State Relays

Emporia, Kan. – Sterling College Outdoor Track and Field headed to the Emporia State Relays to face some of the toughest competition they have seen to date. School from all levels were present for a full day of competition. It was a breezy day with comfortable conditions that led to some good performances across the board for this young team.

On the men's side, Sterling was headlined by the performances of Maurice Gray. Gray placed 8th in both of his field events, the Long Jump and Triple Jump. He set PRs in both events and he now holds the 12th best Long Jump in the NAIA and the 15th best Triple Jump in the NAIA. He is currently ranked 4th and 2nd, respectively, in each of those events in the NCCAA. Cedric Wilson set a PR in the 400m Hurdles and also competed in the 110m Hurdles and High Jump. Others on the men's side setting PRs were Camden Carr and Memphis James.

On the women's side, three-sport athlete, Aliya McClanahan is setting the pace in the young Outdoor season. McClanahan's college debut features her in the Discus and Shot Put. She threw the Discus 35.33m which is an NCCAA national qualifying throw and the 4th best throw in the KCAC this season. She is now the third athlete to qualify for the NCCAA Championships this season. Also setting a PR for Sterling was swimmer, and new runner, Lana Rodriguez in distance events.

Both teams compete next weekend at the Friends University Spring Open, a three-day event from April 4-6.
