Jones represents the Warriors at NAIA Championships

Sterling College indoor track and field completed their season in Gainseville, Fla. in the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 27-March 1.

Charles Jones was the sole competitor for the Warriors. He competed in the triple jump where he finished 17th with a jump of 14.17.

"I was very pleased with Charles's performance in the triple jump this week at nationals," head coach Mason Blevins said. "A good goal going into any national meet is to finish ahead of where you came into the meet ranked, and Charles placed 17th after being ranked 20th going into the meet. He was the first men's indoor qualifier for Sterling College since 2020 and represented SC well on the national stage. Charles is a fierce competitor and was hoping for a little more but should be proud of how he competed and the result."

Over the course of this indoor season the Warriors have broken seven school records including Jones in the triple jump and the high jump, Blake Robertson in the shot put and the weight throw, Trey Dixon in the long jump and 200m dash, and Daryen Jefferson in the 5000m run.

"This wraps up an incredible indoor campaign for our team. As we continue to grow and rebuild this program, I anticipate the last three months serving as a catalyst for continued growth and success. This season saw several breakthroughs, both at the individual and team level. Our athletes are seeing the fruits of their labor and are beginning to taste success at both the conference and national level. We want our team to celebrate the progress we have made, while refusing to settle with where we are at. We have big goals for our program, our athletes have big goals for themselves, and we are excited to chase those together as a team," Blevins said.

The Warriors start their outdoor season on March 22 at the Bethel Invitational.

"Outdoor brings with it a few different events that we miss in indoor season, and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing our freshman try their hand at them," Blevins said. "We also get back a few of our multi-sport athletes who are a big part of our team. Looking forward working with the group the as we look to build of the successful indoor season."
