Warriors bust the rust, records and qualifying standards at Washburn

Sterling College Indoor Track and Field had no trouble dusting off the rust at Washburn's Rust Buster, Friday, Jan. 17.

For the men, Trey Dixon had a break out meet in his indoor track and field debut for the Warriors. Dixon broke the school record in both the men's long jump, with a leap of 6.92m (22-8.5) and the 200m dash with a time of 22.42, placing seventh and 28th respectively.

Both marks also qualified him for the NCCAA National Track Meet and were top 100 marks in the NAIA this year.

Broc Harland also competed in the 200m dash and finished 71st with a time of 24.78. Harland and Mastin raced the 60m dash and finished 90th and 102nd with times of 7.5 and 7.8, respectively.

Mastin also tried his hand in the long jump, placing 42nd with a jump of 5.58m (18-3.27). He had more success in the high jump open finishing eighth and clearing 1.7m (5-7).

In the throws, Blake Robertson and Malachi Bell had another showing for Sterling. Robertson and Bell threw distances of 13.15m (43-1.75) and 10.96m (35-11.5) in the weight throw to finish 31st and 42nd. The trio of Roberston, Bell and Mastin competed in the shot put finishing 18th, 28th and 46th with throws of 13.39m (43-11.25), 12.21m (40-0.75) and 8.76m (28-9).

Daryen Jefferson represented the Warriors in the distance races, competing in both the one mile and 3000m where he finished 42nd and 44th with times of 4:43.42 and 9:33.18, respectively.

For the women, Chloe Schmidt made the NCCAA qualifying standard in the shot put with a throw of 11.23m (36-10.25). This ranks her 86th in the NAIA this year.

Janie Perico and Audrey Blake also competed for the Lady Warriors placing 39th and 48th in the one mile with times of 6:15.52 and 7:31.01, respectively.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the NAIA/JUCO Challenge hosted by Pittsburg State University.
