Warriors fall to Evangel in KCAC tournament

Sterling College men's tennis ended their season in the first round of the KCAC Tournament Championship on Wednesday, April 23 as they went up against Evangel University in Lindsborg, Kan.

The KCAC Tennis Tournament is played in a first to four-point fashion with the doubles point being decided first and then the singles points being played out. The Valor took the doubles point and won three singles matches to come away with the 4-0 win.

Patricio Cifuentes Aguilar and Yohann Molle teamed up to get the 6-4 win in the no. 2 doubles match against Gabriel Leal and Tiago Galoppo. In the no. 3 doubles match, Louis Boisdenghien and Adam King faced Etienne Bouche and Vinicius Costa losing 6-3.

The Valor's next three points came from no. 1, 3 and 4 single matches. Sterling's Pedro Felipoff matched up against Gomez in the no. 1 singles contest and lost 6-2, 6-1. Boisdenghien went up against Leal in the no. 3 singles match where he lost the first set, 6-2, won the second 7-6 and lost the tie-breaker set 6-2.

King also forced the no. 4 singles match against Galoppo into three sets, losing the first set 6-4, winning the second 6-4 and losing the third 6-0.

Incomplete matches include Molle taking on Costa in the no. 2 singles match, Angel Marin facing Esmanhotto in the no. 5 singles match and Cifuentes Aguilar taking on Bouche in the no. 6 singles match.

"I am really proud of how our men competed this season," head coach Nicole Salazar said. "With four freshmen in our starting lineup and no seniors graduating, we were a very young and talented team this season. We had some standout performances, like Louis going undefeated in regular season singles and finishing with an 8-4 conference record. I am pleased with the character our men showed throughout the season, how they persevered through challenges, stayed calm and collected and fought hard at the conference meet. We have come a long way from past season and I am looking forward to having everyone come back to continue to build and get back to it."
