
Warriors defeat Valor 6-1
Sterling College men's tennis went up against the Evangel University Valor in Springfield, Mo. on Monday, March 22. The Warriors had a successful outing, coming away with the 6-1 victory.
The Warriors started going 2-1 in doubles play to secure the point. In the no. 1 doubles match, Pedro Felipoff and Angel Marin got the 6-1 win over Angel Gomez and Gabriel Esmanhotto. Patricio Cifuentes Aguilar and David Garces faced a tough duo in Gabriel Leal and Tiago Galoppo in the no. 2 doubles play and lost 6-2. Kyosuke Ishida and Kazuki Fukushima kept their cool and were able to clench the no. 3 doubles match with a 6-4 win over Tomas Villamil and Diego Emilio Chavarria.
Sterling kept momentum through singles play, starting with Felipoff getting the tiebreaker win over Gomez in the no. 1 singles match. Felipoff win the first set 7-6, lost the second 6-3 and came away with the win in tiebreaker play. Yohann Molle kept things rolling in the no. 2 singles match against Vinicius Costa where he won 6-3, 6-4.
In no. 3 singles play, Louis Boisdenghien got the 6-2, 6-1 win over Leal. Cifuentes Aguilar also got the 6-3, 6-4 victory over Galappo in the no. 4 singles match. In the no. 5 singles match, Ishida faced a tough Esmanhotto, losing 6-4, 6-3. Marin closed things out for the Warriors in no. 6 singles play, beating Chavarria 6-1, 6-3.
The Warriors next match will be Saturday, March 29 against Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan.
