Sterling remains undefeated in conference play, King ranked in NAIA

Sterling College men's tennis made quick work of Tabor College in the conference match up at home on Thursday, March 13, with a 7-0 sweep.

In doubles play, Louis Boisdenghien and Adam King had a close match up in the #1 doubles match against Ko Osuga and Ethan Kutz but the pair of Warriors came out with the 7-6 win. That was the closest the Bluejays got all day.

Patricio Cifuentes Aguilar and David Garces got a much easier win over Alexandre Boljesic and Peter Jost in the #2 doubles spot with a 6-0 victory. In the #3 doubles contest, Kyosuke Ishida and Kazuki Fukushima beat Tabor's John Ferley and Collin Branam, 6-1.

The Warriors kept the momentum going in singles play with Felipoff beating Osuga 6-0, 6-2 in the #1 singles match. Yohann Molle took on Kutz in the #2 singles contest and got the 6-3, 6-1 win.

In the #3 singles match, King beat Boljesic 6-0, 6-1. Cifuentes Aguilar and Jost faced off in the #4 singles match, where Ciguentes Aguilar got the 6-0, 6-1 win.

Nicholas Sprenger Sampaio represented the Warriors in the #5 singles match, getting the 6-0, 6-1 win over Ferley while Ishida put up a similar performance against Branam with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Branam in the #6 singles spot.

On top of a dominant performance over the Bluejays, the Warriors also celebrated Sterling's King being ranked 56th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) NAIA Men's Singles Rankings on March 13.

The ITA Rankings Algorithm is based on an accumulation of win points and loss points, accounting for a win-loss record, the strength of schedule, and the depth/significance of wins and losses. As the season progresses, the value of each win and loss adjusts to reflect the most recent ranking of the opponent.

"Adam is one of the hardest working kids, he's super coachable and is open to trying new things," head coach Nicole Salazar said. "He is a great addition to the team and helps bring the guys closer together, almost like a puzzle piece, in the way he is able to make connections with all the guys on the team. I am very proud of his accomplishments so far this season and am excited to see how he and the rest of the team grow and develop through the spring season."

Sterling will be back in action on Saturday, March 15 at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan.
