Warrior tennis opens up conference play with victory over OKWU

Sterling College men's tennis faced Oklahoma Wesleyan University in their conference opener at home on Saturday, March 1. The Warriors came right out of the gate, sweeping the doubles matches and going on to win 5 of the six singles match ups to get the 6-1 win.

Playing #1 doubles was Louis Boisdenghien and Adam King who beat Richard Hoyte and Preston Callahan 6-3. Sterling's #2 pair of Patricio Cifuentes Aguilar and David Garces came away with the 6-2 win over Raphael Alvado and Manuel Espinal. In the #3 doubles match up, Yohann Molle and Robin Baransi came away with the 6-0 win against Nathan Bartlett and Cash Harrison.

Things continued to roll for the Warriors in the singles match up. Pedro Felipoff represented the Warriors in the #1 singles match up against Hoyte. Felipoff won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 6-3 but ultimately got the victory with a 6-4 win in the third. King faced Alvado in the #2 singles game that also went to a third set. King won the first 6-4, lost the second 6-2 and ultimately lost the contest with a 6-0 loss in the third set.

The rest of the singles matches were smooth sailing Sterling. Molle beat Espinal in the #3 singles match, 6-2, 6-3. Cifuentes Aguilar won the #4 match 6-2, 6-0 over Callahan. Nicholas Sprenger Sampaio won the #5 match for the Warriors 6-2, 6-0 over Bartlett and Kyosuke Ishida closed things out for the Warriors in the #6 spot with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Harrison.

Sterling will be back in action Saturday, March 8 against Baker University in Sterling, Kan.
