
Sterling faces challenging Emporia team
Sterling College men's tennis traveled to Emporia State University on Saturday, Feb. 22 for a cross-division matchup against the NCAA Division II team. Although, the Warriors fought hard, the smaller NAIA school ultimately lost 0-7.
In #1 doubles, Louis Boisdenghien and Adam King took on Emporia's Anton Sarunic and Luke West and suffered a 6-2 loss. Sterling's Patricio Cifuentes Aguilar and David Garces faired much the same in the #2 doubles match against Mostafa Elbasnaly and Hachem Fahem with a 6-2 loss. The Warrior's #3 doubles team of Robin Baransi and Yohann Molle also lost 6-2 to Alexis Mattenberger and Gwendal Mazuay.
In the singles competition, Pedro Felipoff represented the Warriors in the #1 position, losing 6-1, 6-3 to Sarunic. King competed in the #2 position where he went 6-2, 6-4 in a loss to Emporia's Elbasnaly. Molle took on Fahem in the #3 match up where he fell 6-3, 6-3.
Kyosuke Ishida wen 6-1, 6-2 in the #4 singles game against Torres while Cifuentes Aguilar played 6-1, 6-2 in a loss to Emporia's #5 singles Mattenberger. Alexandre Gaboardi competed for Sterling in the #6 singles match against Mazuay losing 0-6, 1-6.
Sterling College's next match up will be Saturday, March 1 in the conference opener against Oklahoma Wesleyan University at home.
