Warriors Take On Coyotes To Start KCAC Play

Sterling, KS- The Warriors hosted Kansas Wesleyan this week at home to open up the start of KCAC play for the season. The women would come away with a win to start conference play, but the men would fall to the Coyotes in hard fought matches.

Women's Tennis vs Kansas Wesleyan (4-3) W

The women would play a competitive KWU team to start conference play but came away with the victory for the Warriors in a close contest. In singles No. 1 Rachel Carlson would fall (7-5, 1-6,8-10), No. 2 Ana Paola Alvarez Diaz would win (6-1,6-0), No. 3 Camila Castro would win (6-4, 6-1), No. 4 Brooklynn Kuhn would win (6-1, 6-1), No. 5 Aubrey Anderson would win (6-4, 6-2), No. 6 Kaylie Fenwick would fall (1-6, 2-6).

In doubles, the women would battle hard but would not get the doubles point. No. 1 Dubs Alvarez and Castro would fall (5-7), No. 2 Dubs Anderson and Carlson would win (6-0), No. 3 Dubs Fenwick and Kuhn would fall (1-6).

A notable player for the Warriors, Ana Alvarez a freshman from Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico has been dominating in the last few meets for the Warriors. Alvarez has been recognized as player of the week for singles and doubles play.

Men's Tennis vs Kansas Wesleyan (2-5) L

The men, unfortunately, fall to KWU in tough matches through the entire lineup to start conference play. In single's No. 1 Antonio Paredes would fall (4-6,3-6), No. 2 Pedro Felipoff would win (6-3, 6-2), No. 3 Angel Marin would fall (6-7, 0-6), No.4 Esteban Rocha would win (6-1, 7-6), No. 5 Santiago Quintero would fall (3-6, 6-2,3-6), No. 5 Hunter Lee would fall (1-6, 3-6).

Going into doubles the men would struggle and were only able to win one of the three matches which did not get the Warriors the doubles point. No. 1 Dubs Paredes and Marin would fall (2-6), No. 2 Dubs Felipoff and Rocha would win (7-6, 7-5), No. 3 Dubs Blede and Hash would fall (4-6).

A notable player for the Warriors is Esteban Rocha a freshman from Lima, Peru who has been playing well. Rocha was able to persevere in his matches this past Monday against KWU. He won in close matches that went into tiebreakers.

The Warriors will be in action this Saturday, March 25th as they would travel to play Ottawa in another conference match.
