Warrior Tennis Beats Baker in Home Opener
Sterling, KS. – The Sterling College tennis teams were in action last weekend against Baker University in a nonconference matchup. Both men and women came away with the victory of 6-1 on both sides and are the first win for the spring season.
Women's Tennis vs Baker University (6-1) W
The women came away with solid wins over Baker to get the win for the Warriors. In singles, No. 1 Rachel Carlson won (2-6, 6-4, 10-8), No. 2 Ana Alvarez won (6-4, 6-2), No. 3 Camila Castro won (6-4, 6-1), No.4 Brooklynn Kuhn won (6-0, 6-2), No. 5 Aubrey Anderson won (7-5, 6-4), No. 6 Kaylie Fenwick fell short in a playoff (5-7, 6-3, 4-10).
In doubles for the women, there was Lady Warrior sweep for the doubles point. No. 1 Dubs Alvarez and Castro won (6-2), No. 2 Dubs Anderson and Carlson won (6-0), and No.3 Dubs Fenwick and Kuhn won (6-0).
Men's Tennis vs Baker University (6-1)
The men also came away with a win against Baker to get the victory for the Warriors. In singles No. 1 Antonio Paredes fell (1-6, 1-6), No. 2 Pedro Felipoff won (6-2, 6-4), No. 3 Angel Marin won (6-3, 6-4), No.4 Esteban Rocha won (6-2, 6-3), No. 5 Santiago Quintero won (6-4, 6-3), No. 5 Hunter Lee won by Default.
Going into doubles the men went into tough matches, but managed to grab the doubles point. No. 1 Dubs Paredes and Marin won (6-3), No. 2 Dubs Felipoff and Rocha fell (2-6), No. 3 Dubs Blede and Hash won by Default.
Teams are set to be in action on the road to play Hasting College in Hastings, Nebraska on Wednesday, March 1st.
