Warrior Swim Finishes Strong at Nationals

Columbus, Ga.-The Sterling College Warrior Swim Team sent two swimmers to the NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving National Championship. Nicole Ashford looked to place in the tournament while Sydney Schmidt was looking to repeat as National Champion in the 100 Fly. The repeat turned out not to be in the cards, but it was a successful trip none-the-less.

Nicole Ashford qualified in the 100 breast. She competed in the prelims and did not make the Finals after finishing 25th with a time of 1:08.72.

Sydney Schmidt looked to repeat as the champion of the 100 Fly. She competed in three total events over the weekend and qualified for the finals in each of them. Her first event was the 50 free where she went into the championships with the 7th best time in the NAIA. She qualified for the finals swimming her best ever time of 23.74. She ended up placing 6th overall in the finals. She also competed in the 100 Free. In the prelims she had to go to a swim off to grab the last spot in the finals, and was successful. She placed 9th in the finals with a time of 52.28. The event she was looking to repeat, the 100 fly, she swam the fastest time in the prelims with a 55.29. In the finals she had to up the ante, but it wasn't enough as she got second in the 100 Fly Finals. Although she did not finish on top of the podium, she was all smiles when the races were over.
